Stunning Spanish resort primed to host second edition of the Challenge de Catalunya

Tarragona, 22nd April 2014 – Lumine Golf Club, one of Europe’s most sought after destinations, is all set to welcome the Challenge Tour for the second ever edition of the Challenge de Catalunya 24-27 April.
Rising stars of the game will compete over the Greg Norman-designed Lumine Lakes Course, expertly preened to stage the highly competitive €160,000 event.

“Lumine is proud to deliver a stunning layout to the players this week,” commented Calle Carlsson, General Manager, Lumine Golf & Beach Club. “The golf course has matured and improved every month for the last three years under the Troon management and should now be considered as one of the best maintained golf courses all year around in Spain and Europe.  Considering the high demand from international guests throughout the spring, the team have made a fantastic job.”

As host to the European Tour’s Qualifying School Stage 2, Nordea Tour and PGAs of Europe, Lumine is no stranger to championship golf. “We know we can rely on a well presented golf course and an enthusiastic team who will do their utmost to ensure the event is as equally enjoyable as it is well-organised,” commented Alain de Soultrait, Director, European Challenge Tour.

Lumine Lakes Course, bearing all the hallmarks of the Great White Shark, is a testing links-style layout and will provide a true test for the field, which features local contender, 24 year-old Jordi Garcia Pinto.

“The greens are in perfect condition, hard and healthy. We have left the rough higher than normal to make sure the players have to play smart. We are sure both competitors and the Tour will be impressed by the course and facilities we have to offer,” Carlsson continued.

Lumine Golf Club is also home to the more traditional Hills Course which runs through pine and olive trees with spectacular views of the nearby coastline, further complimented by the aptly named 9-hole Ruins Course, another Norman design that weaves its way through Roman archaeological remains completing the diverse 45-hole offering of immaculately presented facilities.

Beyond the course, Lumine has also been commended for the diversity within the local region and its comprehensive off-course facilities – including the sophisticated Lumine Beach Club. Together, these attributes have propelled Lumine to its status as one Europe’s most dynamic destinations.
